About

We are reversing global warming… but it’s more than that.

We know the climate crisis is an opportunity to reimagine society. What unique vision will the heartland give to the world? They need us. Let’s do it.

Project Drawdown is the world’s leading source of climate solutions.

Hundreds of people — most with PhDs — invested a few years researching 100 ways to reverse global warming (either by reducing emissions or sequestering carbon from the atmosphere). Then they ranked their list of solutions by cost and efficacy.

The result?

A roadmap for humanity — for investors, entrepreneurs, cities, states, countries. All of these solutions are proven in the marketplace, and many are profitable.

Drawdown reframes the larger global conversation from “doom and gloom” to a sense of opportunity, possibility, and hope for the future.

Phase 1 was researching and modeling. Phase II is regionalizing these solutions. For example, for Europe, Australia, Georgia, Michigan, Illinois, and Kansas City.

So Indiana Drawdown asks, “How can Indiana meet critical emissions goals using the Project Drawdown framework?”

Our progress groups shepherd the Drawdown solutions forward in Indiana.

We’ve identified hundreds of entities in Indiana already implementing these solutions! Most just don’t know how critical they are to reverse global warming.

Indiana Drawdown is a data-backed framework that helps us row the boat together and make more informed decisions to reduce emissions. For example:

  • Methane traps heat in the atmosphere 30x more than carbon dioxide. Cows are big source of methane. Did you know feeding them red algae, at just 1-2% of their diet, reduces methane emissions over 90%? And that Indiana has 880,000 cows? What if we led the world in this solution?
  • Drawdown solution #1 has to do with refrigeration systems. Did you know they use a chemical which traps heat in the atmosphere 1,000x – 13,000x more than carbon dioxide? Did you know grocery stories leak about 25% of this chemical year? Did you know the EPA has a free program that helps grocery stories reduce this leakage — saving them a few grand a year — but that only one of about 700 groceries in Indiana participate? What if Indiana led the world in this solution?
  • Etc.

These are just a few examples of how Indiana Drawdown progress groups are already having an enormously positive impact on Indiana.

The graphics below are sobering and show our moral responsibility to lead. They also represent opportunity. We have a lot of low hanging fruit here in Indiana.

In 2014, the top 10 U.S. state emitters accounted for nearly half of U.S. emissions.
